About This Calculator

The Alcohol Cost Calculator for Kids estimates the number of teens with serious alcohol problems in a school or community and the number of serious problems these young people may have. Using three basic steps, the Calculator generates its population-based estimates of serious alcohol problems among young people:

Step 1

Using data from the federal government's National Household Survey on Drug Abuse and the National Comorbidity Survey, the Alcohol Cost Calculator for Kids estimates the number of young people between the ages of 12 and 20 in a school or community of your size that can be expected to drink alcohol so heavily or in such hazardous ways that they meet clinical diagnostic criteria for serious alcohol problems - referred to by experts as either alcohol dependence disorders or alcohol abuse disorders. Step 2

Alcohol Cost Calculator for Kids estimates the likely number of young people with serious alcohol problems who have never had the problems identified or treated. These estimates are also based on national epidemiological data. More...
